how can i create my own domain(web site) with xampp?

anyone could help me out? im running an xampp on a xp os ...all its running great only problem is that i dont know how to start my own web page thru xampp, any ideeas? tutorials?...to help me out ? do i need to register for an domain(.com co.cc .org etc)? or i can make my own with the xampp?
