This is bug #29180 and has been fixed in later versions than 5.0.41. An MySQL upgrade on this server did the trick.

Strange: I still get different results when I compare the output of MySQL version 5.0.45 (production server) and the new installed 5.1.48 on the development mashine. Both give correct results, but the autoincrement ID of the newly inserted line is "7" with 5.0.45 and "6" with 5.1.48.
