My fault, my fault, my fault...
I had made an SSH tunnel in Putty that forwarded requests directed to localhost:3306 to the remote server!
It was my first attempt in connecting to the remote server in order to extract and manipulate data, before I decided that is was better to work with dumps.
So I forgot to remove the tunnel and that is the cause of the mess that I had.
