The warnings were just from a double entry of 'extension imap.so' in the php.ini config file.
I didn't replace the php.ini when I upgraded last, the extensions were moved to /etc/php.d/imap.ini ...
The actual error that seems to keep email from working is:
ERROR: There is already a process (pid=32669) of this script running.
I find no task of that pid running.
