MySQL indexes can't see function results, so you need to code the query literally, eg ... 

if inparam_shoesize=-1 then
  set @query = concat( @query, ' where shoesize=', inparam_showsize );
end if;
[/code

and you'll need a covering index that covers the columns you're filtering.
