Problems building MySQLdb on Max OS X 10.5.8

Hi: I have installed 2.6.4 on a 10.5.8 Leopard system. MySQL version 5.1.46 (32 bit version). When trying to build and install MySQLdb I am getting an error that I don't see when I search on the web for MySQLdb installation problems. The message from gcc seems to indicate an architecture mismatch of some sort or a bad compiler option. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Thanks.
