Thanks I tried your method and it worked flawless with a table of 16,000 records.
Inserting the test record is the key.
I only need to do this export once a week so this method is more than adequate.
I am actually doing an import from a Sybase table and then dumping the data into MySQL using SQL server as an intermediary.
