Data Limits

I'm sure this has been done, but I need to get my head around limitations of a DB. I've done searches in the past that said 1.5gb db limit. Limits can be set by a provider, I'm guessing they modify open source code? ect ect.

I can't use xml for my game project. I don't want to start with mysql if it can't complete the job. My worry is having many weapons crafted, with big descriptions, and getting an error 'mysql is done storing data, you got too much, sorry, your project is cooked.' lol.

I'm reading other places a mysql db can be 256tb. Which is crazy. So, if I download mysql and install it by hand, making sure not to get limitations set by Google Cloud via modified code, what would I be looking at for limitations and db size?

How do they sell Oracle if mysql is opensource and unlimited?
