fulltext search in non english charset (greek)

Hi everybody,

I have been driving myself mad trying to find a solution to this problem!

I have a db with greek data in it and am doing a fulltext search on various fields. The problem is that the greek letters are not being properly indexed (ie a capital A is not matched with a lowercase a, and an a with a tone is not matched with an a without a tone). You basically have to write the word EXACTLY as it appears in the db to get a result, meaning that if you write a word in all lowercase and this word appears in the db at the start of a sentence with a capital first letter...then you are out of luck!

The problem is I think partly due to the fact that the site is hosted in the UK, default to english (obviously!) and the mysql version is 4.0.2, no upgrade to 4.1 available yet which it appears might help with this problem.

Anybody have any ideas or experience with something similar?
Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lynn
