MySQL Proxy - Production Worthy?

Hi there,

as the subject suggest, I am looking at solutions that can help split the read/write across different machine for load-balancing purposes.

I read that the MySQL Proxy is only Alpha, but seems like it has been used by some corners.
Anyone with experiences?

This is useful if the end user cannot cater to a logic change within the application.
