Managing variable assignment in MySQL queries, especially with the deprecation of :=, requires some adjustment in approach. While the INTO clause is recommended for single-column assignments, handling multiple columns or more complex scenarios can indeed become cumbersome.

:=: While it may seem convenient for simple use cases, it's important to adhere to best practices and avoid deprecated features whenever possible. Even for simple cases, it's recommended to transition to the recommended methods to ensure compatibility and maintainability of your code in the long run.

The deprecation of := was primarily driven by concerns over its ambiguity and potential for unintended behavior, especially in more complex queries or when used in conjunction with other features.
