Granting Select Access to View Yields error 1356

I created a View, as the super user, at root I can view the results of the view.

When I log in as a user who has granted select access to the view, I instead get

SQL Execution error #1356. Response from the database:

View 'db.table references invalid table(s) or columns(s) or function(s) or definer/invoker of view lack rights to use them.

If I also grant select access to all of the tables used in the view, then the view works. But I shouldn't have to grant select access to the underlying tables, just the view.
