Allowing access from another host

How do I allow access to mysqld from another host on my network? Currently this is the message I receive when I try to login from another host:

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@[my host here]' (Using password: YES)

I've tried a couple variations of GRANT commands on the server, but nothing seems to allow the login from the other host. What should I do?
