changing net-retry-count

I notice that records included in transactions where a client fails to commit or rollback because of connection loss are locked for 10 minutes.

net_retry_count = 10 and net_write_timeout = 60. I'm assuming that these two parameters explain the 10 minute lock time - is this correct ?

I'd like to reduce this to 1 minute and so set net_retry_count to 0. What are the implications of doing this, if any ? The Db is used solely for serving data to ODBC connected applications.

Thanks.
