Error in MySQL Administrator

I have unsuccessfully tryed to install MySQL Server 5.5.9 for windows on a totally fresh VMWare windows 2003 R2 full updated server.
It crashes every time and I have not been able to find any help on the WEB.
So now I´m trying to go for the MySQL Server 5.1.56 essentials for windows.
I´ve installed it with success, but now I keep getting this error when launching MySQL administrator:
Access violation at address 0042A8FE in module 'MySQLAdministrator.exe'. Read of address 00000004?
Also after setting privlidges to a to a new user on a new catalog. Next time I open MySQL administrator the privlidges on the catalog is gone and there arent any new ones to set?
