Starting event scheduler?

Hi,

I have a pretty annoying problem. When i try to start the event scheduler by doing

> SET GLOBAL event_scheduler = ON;

MySQL throws an exception and crashes (a window pops up and says that an unhandled win32 exception occured). Any thoughs about this? What im i doing wrong? Ive also tried adding --event-scheduler=ON as start parameters but without any success...

Some info that might be useful:
Server version: 5.1.12-beta-community-nt MySQL Community Server (GPL)
Windows XP Pro sp 2
