MySQL for Excel - Compatibility

We have a lot of new date which is in the form of Excel spreadsheets, which is additional information to be added to an existing MySQL database into existing blank fields.

MySQL for Excel 1.3.8 seems the perfect solution but having installed it, we can't connect to the test database on Localhost. In googling the connection problem, a post was uncovered which indicated that MySQL for Excel 1.3.8 will not work on version 8.0.31 of MYSQL, which is our test and production version.

Is this correct ?

If so, we will not do any retrograde migration, as this would be not only a backward step but also very time consuming.

So, if the answer is that it is compatible, can anyone indicate how we get it to connect as TCP/IP and Socket attempts have all failed.

If it is not compatible and won't ever work, can anyone suggest the best way to update the database from Excel without extensive SQL scripting as we don't have an SQL specialist in our group and don't really have time to learn to any deep extent. We use Adminer as our database admin tool of choice, which has served us well so far but doesn't really have the capability to do any mass update as far as we can see.

Any help gratefully received.
