Rolling unique user counts

Hi!

We collect user data and report on unique visitors. On big periods, these queries take a long time and we have no option in aggregating periods into larger periods.

Rick James suggests to use bitstrings where a userid is being hashed (md5 for instance) and that hash mapped to a single bit inside this bitstring.

How can this mapping be done?

the explanation is also available here: http://mysql.rjweb.org/doc.php/uniques

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
