ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

On Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8.
MySQL Version : 5.5.9
There are 4 MySQL Instance are running on 3306, 3307, 3308 and 3311 port.

I am not able to connect instance running on 3306 and 3308 port.

Error : " ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: Y ”

mysql -uroot -p -P3306 -hlocalhost -S/u01/app/mysql/admin/mq01wldb01/data/mq01wldb01.sock
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Please suggest.
