mysql_connect(): (errno 11)

I've started noticing a large amount of core.##### files adding up on my server (see image)

Also, when looking through the error_log, I find hundreds of these entries....
PHP Warning: mysql_connect(): #HY000Can't create a new thread (errno 11); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug in /home/omahanig/public_html/gallery2/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 348
Does this simply mean I am running out of memory on the server or should I be looking elsewhere? I've done quite a few searches & haven't been able to find any info to help me troubleshoot this.
