access front end DAO recordset problem

I am having problems getting access to work as required. Here is my situation. I have access as a front end connect to a hosted mysql 5.1 database, via the ODBC 5.1 connector.

Using an Access DAO connection object, I am trying to insert new records into the database and checking to see if the inserts were successful by examing the recAffected property of the database connection object. It seems that zero is returned to recAffected even through records were successful inserted.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Or does any one have an idea on how to detect if a record insertion is successful without querying the database for the record?

Any help or hints would greatly be appreciated.
