Slave SQL tread retried transaction 10 time(s) in vain, giving up.

We are running a master to master replication database, we have gotten the following error multiple times:
Slave SQL tread retried transaction 10 time(s) in vain, giving up. Consider raising the value of the slave_transaction_retries variable.
We can get past the error on the database by running a skip but the error will continue to show up and stop replication.
Does anyone have a long term solution to stop these errors and have replication run without interruption?
