This was just the conversation I had with my hosting service:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Kevin'
Kevin: Thank you for contacting Dot5Hosting Live Chat. How may I assist you today?
Jeremy: ULA-879883
Kevin: hi
Jeremy: hi
Kevin: please let me know the database name and upgraded sql file with 4.0.15
Jeremy: Not quite sure what you mean really...see you all said you were at v. 4.0.16
Jeremy: the sql file I have was exported from a v. of 4.1.18
Kevin: can you let me know the sql file with v. 4.0.16
Kevin:
Kevin: which you want to import so that we can do it for you
Jeremy: I don't have a v. 4.0.16 sql mine is a v. 4.1.18
Jeremy: the db is sovadsmc_p_bb2
Jeremy: the sql is...
Jeremy: mysql157b341863eceb1eca131c98147b.sql
Jeremy: its the only sql file in /public_html
Kevin: please hold on
Jeremy: ok
Kevin: hello
Jeremy: hi
Kevin: mysql57b34186... ...1c98147b.sql2 is this the right sql file
Jeremy: yes
Kevin: ok
Jeremy: Are you in the process of importing the sql file right now?
Kevin: yes our admins are working on it
Kevin: please allow an hour from now
Jeremy: I understand...but could I say something?
Kevin: yes
Jeremy: I am not saying its not going to get done this time...but for the past 4 days I have been told the same exact thing you just told me and nothing ever happened. Not even an email stating why it didn't or to please follow up!
Jeremy: Monica, John, Eric, and several others have told me the exact same thing you just told me
Jeremy: I have spent countless hours going back and forth with you all trying to get a mesely sql file imported into my database
Kevin: now i will tell you the truth
Jeremy: ok please do
Kevin: the mysql version uploaded by you seems to be of a higher version
Jeremy: it is a higher version I even told you it was
Kevin: the .sql file should be 4.0.16
Kevin: we dont support the higher version
Jeremy: ok...so what is happening now?
Kevin: we are getting version errors while importing the database
Jeremy: ok...now is there something you can do or any initiatives you are looking into to make this work?
Kevin: the error due to version iscorresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1' at line 18
Jeremy: ok could you forward some info onto the admin that is doing this process?
Jeremy: Typically what you'll have to remove are references to DEFAULT CHARSET and COLLATE phrases...tell him to go in and remove all those instances
Jeremy: just a simple find and replace
Jeremy: then try to import it again
Jeremy: could you please have him/her try this?
Kevin: we cant do anthing from our end
Jeremy: reason being?
Kevin: as the mysql version is higher at your end

Now when you say replace references to DEFAULT CHARSET and COLLATE, do you mean replace every instance of those words with a null value or what exactly?
