/var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 growing out of control

I know next to nothing about MySQL.

I have a database server that's running out of file space because /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 is 30GB and growing. I'm given to understand that this is because of transaction logging. I don't particularly care about that... if the database got completely wrecked, we could just rebuild them and let new data populate them.

I also believe there may be a way to tell MySQL to only allow that file to be a certain size, and to just overwrite itself. That would be fine, too.

Can I just export my databases, stop MySQL, delete this file, start MySQL, and import the databases? What setting would keep this file from growing uncontrollably?
