Thanks Barry for your suggestion.

I followed your link but soon got that sinking feeling that has become so familiar over the past weeks!! I really am new to this and my head is already overflowing with information - most of which I think I will not need.

It seems that if I can manage MySQL data on this PC with 'mysql -u root -p', it shouldn't require many more steps to manage MySQL data on a networked PC and over the internet.

I came to this site as I want to change an MSAccess database using linked tables on a server,
with a front-end (written in whatever) on clients using MySQL data on the server.

I realise that I may have to setup user accounts but there seems to be so much more to do, and it's all getting so confusing.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is not too much for my fading 67 year old brain!!

Does anyone have any code? snippets or list of instruction which solve these issues, that I can work through?

If you or anyone can make this clearer please treat me as a beginner.

There must be many of you who have achieved this, as MySQL on a standalone PC makes little sense.
Please give me a few minutes of your time.

Thanks in advance

Jack
