password expired problem

I tried to switch my password to nulls in mysql and now I cannot sign on to local instance=mysql56, root, and localhost:3306. I cannot enter new or confirm passwords without knowing the old password. I'm on windows 7, Mysql community 5.6.25 and Msql workbench 6.3.4.Any easy way to correct this?

Password for Mysql account 'root'@localhost:3306 expired. Please pick a new password. It then shows 3 boxes, old password, new password, and confirm password.
