mysqlbinlog does not capture statements

I am on mysql 4.1 server for a client app. I am trying to see the transaction logs on db from mysqlbinlog. Although i made the relative log files, for example host-bin.log file it only captyures the creation of the log files, not other statements given from commandline. Cause the version is too old, i read all the relative docs about his version, it doesn't refere to any relative subject, except that bin-log files does not capture statements not changinf the db. Also
Section B.5.8.4, “Open Issues in MySQL” doesn't refere any relative issue. Any sugg? Thnx in advance!
