Hi, I'm working with Pedro solving this issue.

I'm looking at TCP traffic with tcpdump, and it looks like there is not outgoing packets from the local server to the remote server (in any port). So at this time we can discard some typical causes, like service not running in the remote system or firewall configurations.

I think it should be a misconfiguration or maybe a bug in the federated engine of this version (5.1.47-log).

UPDATE: Wow, I have changed the destination port of the connection to 3306, and it seems that tries a connection, so the PORT option in the CREATE server especification doesn't work well.
