Partioning Across Servers

Hello,

We are trying to build our infrastructure to scale horizontally. With our database growing and growing by the second, we would like to use the partion hash function that came available in 5.1. What we really want is a cluster where the machines are just nodes providing storage and the nodes being partitioned data. My schema sits at a layer above this and my DB layer handles IO requests within the cluster. How can this be done? or does anyone know of a way i can achieve this.
