I'm also interested in this topic, because I'm plannin to use lots of (range)partitioning in my datawarehousing application.

Does mysql really open all partitionfiles if query conserns only some partitions in the table? If yes, then why?
Is it possible that Kamal is having high cpu load because of hashing algorithm?

Is there upper limit for number of partitions?
