Hi Tom,
The default configuration for FULLTEXT search only searches words that are 4 characters and more and there are also stop words. In order to bypass this, you will need to edit the mysql configuration file and add this under the [mysqld] section:
[mysqld]
ft_min_word_len=1
ft_stopword_file=''
Afterwards, make sure you do repair table TABLENAME quick to recreate the fulltext indexes to include shorter words.
