Flavia, did you try "CREATE DATABASE TESTDB;" ?
1) First login using
mysql -u root
"mysql>" prompt will be displayed.
2) Enter the above mentioned command
You will get the response "Query OK, 1 row affected"
Try if this solves your problem.
