Environment variables, somehow not installed?

Hello,

I hope that this is not a stupid question. I have installed mysql manually on a debian distribution, and am now trying to get perl to work with it.
Perl doesn't want to work with it because it can't find the libmysqlclient.so library file. Unfortunately, I cannot find this file myself. I was hoping to look at the LD_RUN_PATH environment variable, so i ran 'env'.

Turns out, i don't see any environmental variables used for mysql at all? Am I working with an only partially installed mysql, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks for your time,

-Adam
