MySQL on Snow Leopard using non-standard zlib

i wanna configure/build MySQL on Snow Leopard using cmake. But i can't figure out how to have cmake use zlib version 1.2.6 available at /usr/local/lib. It keeps using the system provided library version 1.2.3 at /usr/lib.
could someone please help
