indexing , fulltext indexing vs partitioning ?

Hi

I have been in confusion on using partitioning or fulltext searching. I am working on the analysis of a shopping comparison project which stores million and millions of merchants data via xml feed.

Can anyone please suggest what would be better choice fulltext indexing or table partitioning in a bit detail.

I am using MySql 5.1 for database and PHP 5 as platform.
