Non so come si è pututa cancellare, ma è bastato creare una directory di nome "data" nella home di mysql per far funzionare il tutto, almento tramite Instance Configuration Wizard.
Però resta ancora il problema che se setto dal pannello come file di configurazione il file my-large.ini mi da ancora lo stesso errore.
