Virtualize MySQL Database on a VMware virtual machine

Hi all,
I'd like to know, what is the best practice for virtualizing MySQL database, that:

--Will be reside on a VMDK disk, stored on a VMFS volume on ESXi 5.5
--Will host on a Windows Server 2016 machine
--Will serve the "CA Release Automation" Application

I'd like to verify that virtualizing MySQL DB is supported and verified.
(I'd to avoid "Raw Device Mapping" if this is an option.)

I'd like also to know, what's the best practices for:

--Splitting the data between disks (i.e. OS Drive, Database Drive, Logs drive)

-any other information with regards to DB virtualization- is welcome!

Thanks!

Shai
