Mike Zinner, the creator of DBDesginer, is the Team Lead for MySQL Workbench. WB is the successor to DBDesigner. So, our focus is on helping folks migrate to WB. If there are specific DBDesinger features that are missing, please let us know.
As an open source product, you have access to the source, and you can create plugins. Here is one that exports to Propel:
