Simon,
We definitely are focused on making it easy to import from DBDesigner to MySQL Workbench. Many folks have already done this successfully.

Best thing to do:

1) See the open bugs for MySQL Workbench:
http://bugs.mysql.com/search.php

2) If you don't see your bug, please file a bug ("Category" is "MySQL Workbench"):
http://bugs.mysql.com/report.php
