WorkBench v6.3 CE - Creds Security during transit

Server v6.6.14 on Centos 6.10 (Final)
WorkBench v6.3 CE on MS Windows 10

Hi

I use WorkBench with a "Standard (TCP/IP)" connection method. As far as I know the Community Edition (CE) doesn't support SSL.

When my WorkBench makes a simple connection to a remote server (via LAN), is the username and/or password sent to the server in plaintext? I'm hoping to find an authoritative response to this question, relative to my environment, but all responses are appreciated.

I've done some reading in the WorkBench docs, and came close, but so far I wasn't able to find any statement that explicitly nails this "Yes/No" result down. I'm aware the server does password hash matching during authentication, but I'm asking about creds in transit and their exposure to network sniffing.
