Linking C Language and MySQL

Hello,

I want to write a C language based program which connects to a database, MySQL in this case. When i use EXEC SQL it can not compile, i tried adding some libraries but still no luck, i think i need to use another compiler.

What do you say? Do i need to use another compiler?
If yes, Which one?
