Using InnoDB Cluster Commands In “Batch” Mode

I’m running InnoDB Cluster’s with MySQL 5.7.26 and MySQL Shell 8.0.11.

I want to be able to monitor the status of the InnoDB cluster in “batch” mode, possibly via a shell script spooling to a log file, and send out an email alert if any member of the group changes its status to “MISSSING”.

I’m struggling to find out if this is even possible, and have spent the last 4 hours trying to find a solution. Can mysqlsh commands like cluster.status() even be run outside of the command line API?

Has anybody already been able to do something like this, I would really appreciate some help or guidance in the right direction.
