That sample was using 5.1.30, so I guess it is still not fixed.

I don't know whether 5.0.41 is newer or older than 5.1.30. In general, most bug fixes go into multiple versions (6.0, 5.4, 5.1, 5.0) until they are end-of-life'd (4.1, 4.0, 3.x).

Another approach is to use UPPER() instead of LOWER(). (But watch out for German ss.)
