This is super, and I think the self-join will solve my problem. My only question is the performance issue noted in the article.

My data set size is small, total size of the table I showed will be <1000 rows. But even so, as I read this it's not the size of the table, it's the size of the groups that effects performance. In my case, I KNOW that the size of any group (e.g. records per name) will not exceed 12. It would seem that I'm looking at a 12*12=144 (aka "tiny") problem with performance. Am I reading this correctly?
