Can I test to see if a record is already locked before making a Select call?
Currently I am using:

SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE fieldname = key FOR UPDATE, conn, adOpenStatic

but if this record is locked it waits for it to unlock or until a 30 second timeout. I would like to let the user know the record is in use and give him the option of aborting.
