Thanks Andrew and Peter for your help. I will try to copy this by stopping the MySQL instance and see how it goes.
I have heard from another source that you can hot-copy from one server to another and use the Innodb crash-recovery option when starting up the target instance and that this will work, most of the time - :). They mentioned this in the context of a vm snapshot (which isn't an option in my case) but would this work in your opinion?
