MySQL 5.1 has been obsolete for years, I've no way to reproduce anything with it.

Obviously ...

select "Thor\\'s Hammer" like '%\\%' escape '\\';
+-------------------------------------------+
| "Thor\\'s Hammer" like '%\\%' escape '\\' |
+-------------------------------------------+
|                                         0 |
+-------------------------------------------+

... so I do not understand why one would expect ...like '%\\%' escape '\\'... to return a positive result.
