MySQL doesn't seem to be disturbed by a large amount of tables.

Basically, the only thing that could decrease your performance is the fact that you'll perform 36000 table open instead of 24 but I don't think this should affect your global performance (the amount of data should be the same isn't it ?)

This could even increase your key_buffer availability (I guess you're using MyIsam table) as you will only load small index trees that are used instead of the whole index tree for all your forum.
