Low performance with a better hardware !!

I have just changed my mysql server (hardware) and i have some surprises: My old machine was an old compaq ProLiant with two processors Pentium III 1,13Ghz and 756MB RAM and hard disks SCSI 10.000 rpm. My new machine is a Dell, with two processors Pentium IV 3.4Ghz, 2GB RAM and SCSI hard disks 15.000 rpm. And i have a program made in php4 with some querys. The performance of my querys is 3x more hight in the old machine then the new one, with the same OS (Linux RedHat Enterprise Edition V4). My question is: Why ?
