too much lock and opening tables

I just was checking the desciption of some tables.
But suddenly, mysql client was stucked and gave me no messages.
when I checked the err log,
it shows too much lock and mysql client showed me status "opening tables" for every tables.
I don't know what happend to my db.
Could you give me some help?
